Traffic Reports

Trafiic reports on the radio bug me. They are NEVER correct! Well, except when they are generalizing which is easy to do in most major cities. You know what areas of the city are busy EVERY DAY at the SAME TIME. It is when they get into detail about specific accidents that bothers me. There have been several occasions that I have been on the highway during the traffic report here in Cincinnati and the traffic reporter is telling the listening audience about a traffic accident at the very location I am at. I look around, up, down, behind and in front and THERE IS NO ACCIDENT. This has happened to me several times. There are traffic cams on all our major interstates through the city, do these reporters not have Internet access to look at them? What other duties do traffic reporters have other than to monitor police radios for traffic accidents? I know I am being a bit sarcastic in assuming they do nothing else, but I swear they have no credibility to me and the businesses that buy advertising that is played "This traffic update is brought to you by..." need to ask for a refund. Maybe its cheap advertising since the traffic reporter is only telling us something we already know, traffic is slow at the major arteries between 7-9 and 4-6 EVERYDAY and they are making up fake accidents to report.

Are you rude?

Customer Service? How about Customer Consideration? I don't mean that the Store Associate should be considerate of the Customer, I mean the other way around. Why must the Employee always have to be the nice one? The one who has to go out of their way to be nice or overly friendly? I think it's pretty common sense that you get what you give. Most of the times when there is a conflict with a store associate and a customer, its because the customer was rude first. I know. I have been on both sides. Think about it, the poor person behind the counter has to deal with many of “Us” every day. And you know, as well as I do that “We” are not a nice group of people. I have taken it upon myself to step up when I see or hear a customer taking their frustration out on a store employee. As a customer, we need to be more appreciative of the people that are there to serve us, be more thankful and considerate. But my all means, if you are treated bad, report it to a supervisor. Chances are it was the customer before you that got the associate all worked up and they are taking it out on you. I am sure this person must have some redeeming qualities that warrant they be paid to be in public view, after all they had to pass an interview... We hope! Be nice! You get what you give, and if you get nasty treatment, you probably deserved it! But then again, I do know that there are some pretty lazy, pathetic nasty employees out there too, why they even applied for the job in the first place is beyond me. When I see this behavior, I blame management. (snicker) Management sucks but that subject is for a different time.

I did not know this!

Did You?

Daylight Saving Time rules will change beginning in the year 2007.

Daylight Saving Time (DST) begins each year at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday of April in most of the United States and its territories. Clocks must be moved ahead one hour when DST goes into effect. DST is not observed in Hawaii, American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands and the state of Arizona (with the exception of the Navajo Indian Reservation, which does observe DST).

Standard Time begins each year at 2 a.m on the last Sunday of October. Move your clocks back one hour at the resumption of Standard Time. Daylight Saving Time and time zones are regulated by the U. S. Department of Transportation, and not by NIST.

On August 8, 2005, President Bush signed the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which includes changes in Daylight Saving Time, effective March 1, 2007. Therefore:

In 2006, DST will begin at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday of April (April 2, 2006) and Standard Time will begin at 2 a.m. on the last Sunday in October (October 29, 2006), as under the current rules.

However, beginning in 2007, DST will begin at 2 a.m. on the second Sunday in March (March 11, 2007) and Standard Time will begin at 2 a.m. on the first Sunday in November (November 4, 2007).

Free personality profile....

Here is mine! Enjoy! LOL

Updating your mobile phone or I-tunes is a regular occurrence. You are an early adopter and usually the first to have the very latest gizmo. You are stylish and take pride in your appearance

You are known to a lot of people and have many friends. Naturally some friends you class as closer than others. You will not waste time with you consider to be boring, prefering to keep company with more upbeat people with a positive outlook.

Friendly and fun is how your friends would describe you. Life is for living in the fast track and you could give lessons on this to most everyone. You can be seen making a mad rush from, thing to thing.

It won't have been the first time it has been suggested you spend a little more time to get in touch with your more reflective side.Though even the thought of this bores you as you can think of lots more interesting things to do.

You like a challenge and may be attracted by someone with a different maybe quieter personality and pursue them just for the chase. If they don’t then want to do all the exciting things that you do, you will get bored again.

Anyone you deem as too serious gets filed away as dull and inflexible. If you were to give them some time you might just discover your shadow personality!

You are a party lover and will be out on the town as often as finances, relationships and circumstances allow. You do not often turn down an invitation especially if it is to somewhere new and very “NOW”

Not for you an ivory tower, you like people and would wilt if you were deprived of company for any length of time.

How are you doing?

You know, that is a question we ask and get asked often many times a day. Are you one to ask it, and then not listen to the answer, or do you really care how the other person is doing. Or are you asked it and you answer with the standard “Good, thanks” or do you go into all your troubles or positives? I was on a job today and I lady came through the office to emptying all the smaller trashcans into her larger one on wheels. One older lady asked her how she was doing and her reply was not good. Seemed she was upset because her daughter had stolen money from her. $40.00. She said it was all the money she had to buy food with. She said all of this with a “woah is me” tone to her voice. The other woman who had asked made some small talk about the subject and the lady emptying the trash moved on to the next office. It really got me to thinking as to if someone really cares “How we are doing” Don’t ask if you don’t want to know. LOL But, after the lady had gone, the older lady turned to me and said “It’s always something with her!” She told me that the lady was always in a bind and the office had taken up collections for her in the past. I don’t think I would be asking her how she was doing anymore. What could you say instead of “How are you doing”? Unless you are genuinely interested in the answer. It just seems like standard chit chat that we say because we have to, it’s an ice breaker to get us to the guts of the conversation. Try telling someone you are lousy the next time the ask, I wonder if they will want to know more and offer a solution?

Taking a Nap -- in the Empire State Building

Many recent studies conclude that we don't sleep enough during our working week. For example, the National Sleep Foundation -- the other NSF -- says that 40% of adults admit that the quality of their work suffers when they're sleepy. So what should we do? Take a nap during the day. But this practice is not widely supported by companies -- to say the least. If you live in Manhattan, a small company, MetroNaps, has a solution for you and is even "profiting from nonproductiveness," according to Wired News. All you have to do is to go to a suite in the 24th floor of the Empire State Building and pay $14 for a 20-minute nap in an adjustable and ergonomic chair. For people who don't live in Manhattan, Metronaps can rent you one of its pods for installation in your office. But you'll have to convince your HR department that you'll be more productive after a nap.

Would you do this?

Just when you think you have read it all...

Ad posted on Craigslist:

I am looking for someone to camp out for me so I can get a Playstation 3. This videogame system comes out on November 17. Right now I believe Best Buy will be the best store to camp out at for this. You would need to be there around 6pm on Wednesday, November 15th. You will stay camped out until I arrive at the store a few hours before they open on November 17.

If you are a college student that means you will only have to miss classes on Thursday, Nov 16 so this would be a good way to make an easy $200 shortly before Christmas. There will be MANY other people in line with you and there is always the possibility of a camera crew stopping by as this will be a major release event. Typically an hour or two before the store opens the manager will come out and hand out tickets starting with the first person in line and will go down the line until there are no more tickets available. I plan on being there a few hours (2-3hrs) before the store opens so once you get your ticket you hand it to me and your job is done. Easy as that and you are $200 richer.

Keep in mind. Chances are IT WILL BE COLD so come dressed appropriately. I will do the following for you.

*I will provide you with a collapsable chair (which you can keep)
*I will provide you with a sleeping bag (which you can keep)
*When you start camping on Nov. 15 I will bring you dinner from a local fast food joint. (max $10)
*Early on the morning of Nov. 16 I will stop by before work and bring you breakfast (max $10) and will provide you with $10 so you can get lunch.
*The evening of Nov. 16 I will provide you with Dinner (max $10).
*Morning of Nov. 17 I will provide you with a breakfast (max $10) as I show up to relieve you of the ticket and you relieve me of $200.
*You will have the option to provide your own meals and I will give you an extra $50. This means I will not show up to provide you with any meals during the camp out...you are opting to take more cash and handle the meals yourself. I will show up to meet you when you start the camp out though...but the next time you see me will be the morning of Nov. 17.

If you are interested drop me an email and we can discuss the details. I am looking for a RELIABLE and TRUSTWORTHY individual. If you are neither of these do not email me. I cannot afford to take off from work to camp out myself, that is why I'm posting for this.

No, I am not considering this, but would YOU?

That's not the beginning of the end

ENIGMA LYRICS

"Return To Innocence"

That's not the beginning of the end
That's the return to yourself
The return to innocence
Love - Devotion
Feeling - Emotion
Love - Devotion
Feeling - Emotion
Don't be afraid to be weak
Don't be too proud to be strong
Just look into your heart my friend
That will be the return to yourself
The return to innocence
If you want, then start to laugh
If you must, then start to cry
Be yourself don't hide
Just believe in destiny
Don't care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don't give up and use the chance
To return to innocence
That's not the beginning of the end
That's the return to yourself
The return to innocence
Don't care what people say
Follow just your own way Follow just your own way
Don't give up, don't give up
To return, to return to innocence.
If you want then laugh
If you must then cry
Be yourself don't hide
Just believe in destiny.

How many Village People are there?

Last night I was watching one of my newest guilty pleasures. "I've got a secret?" on The Game Show Network (GSN). You know, its an updated version of the 60's game show classic where ordinary people and yes, some celebrities, that is if Carrot Tops dad can be considered a celebrity, appear and whisper into the hosts ear their secret. Then a panel of celebrity judges, and in this update version they are all Gay and Lesbian, Jermaine Taylor (who is my favorite), Suzanne Westenhoefer, Frank Decaro, and Billy Bean... I know, Who?, Who?, Who?, and Who?. Anyway, last night the mystery guest was the original Indian from the Village People. Felipe Rose. I know, WHO? When they showed a clip of the group, I noticed something I really never gave much thought to. Can you tell me how many original members there are in the group and what their costume was? I would have failed. Here they are...

Betty Please...

So, Back in High School there was this girl in our Publications class named Betty. My friends Kevin and Ryan use to sort of mock her from hilarious Lavern and Shirley episode where Lavern insist on calling Shirley "Betty" when they were working in this diner. They key phrase was "Betty Please, Betty Pick-up". We got many mileage on saying these lines and laughing til our sides hurt.. ahh High School. Fast forward 15 or so years and on a nice Saturday afternoon lounging around the house, Rick told me that he considered naming his Dog "Betty" because she was Black and he likes the song Black Water. "Oh Black Betty round and round....". Out of nowhere and I guess for nostalgia I murmured "Betty Please, Betty Pick up" under my breath. You would have thought I had unlocked the secret to the holey grail. Rick jumped up and was shocked that I would say those words. 'Where did you hear that"? He demanded. I told him about High School and a smile came across his face. He told me that when he was in college he and his friends use to mimic the same scene from Lavern and Shirley. One time we caught the episode on a rerun, but now it has been immortalized on the net on You Tube. Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the funniest 6 minutes in TV Sitcom history (or at least in the top 10)

I am addicted!

Yes! I am addicted. I am addicted to playing spades on line. I use to play on this site called Flipside about 8 years ago. I use to get involved in spades tournaments that could last for hours on end. The site was taken over by Sierra about 6 years ago and the site has not been the same since. I disapeared from the scene for awhile but recently reconnected. I can play all day long!

There are many other games there to play. I would highly recommend checking it out. I play in the Rated Room One and my nick there is Jero_66 http://hoylegames.sierra.com/ Sign up and lets play a game of spades!

Lost and Found

So, I was in LA last weekend and I rented my car through Avis. I really never have a preference on which rental car company I use and I think I have used them all at some time or another. But now I think I will use Avis from now on.

When I left the Cincinnati airport it was a crisp fall morning. I grabbed a jacket on the way out the door. Nothing really special just a light weight jacket. I had checked the weather in LA and they were calling for cool evenings and possible rain, so the jacket couldn't hurt. I never really ended up wearing the jacket but I kept it in the back seat of the rental car.
Well, I forgot the jacket when I returned the car. I realized it when I was already at the airport. Like I said, it wasn’t really any special jacket so I just wrote it off as a silly slight of mind and a loss. Well, late that night (1:30am) I get a call from Avis. They found my coat and would be mailing it back to me! That was a real surprise to me. I figured it would go into lost and found and after 60 days of no one claiming it, an employee would get to take it home or it would be donated to a shelter someplace. It was above and beyond in my opinion for them to research who had that car and to contact me ASAP. I got the jacket in the mail today. It think I will call it my lucky jacket, it obviously doest not want to be separated from me.

Songs that take you back....

Do you have a song that takes you back to the exact time and space you were in when you first heard it? Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody does it to me. It immediately takes me back to 1975 riding in my moms yellow Dautsun B 2-10 with the windows down singing at the top of my lungs with my sisters. I love the music from the 70's. At the time I had no idea what lyrics I was singing but I loved the melodies. Afternoon Delight, Chevy Van, Night the Lights Went Out In Georgia, The Night Chicago Died, Run Joey Run, Blinded by the Light... I could go on and on. To this day, I still probably don't know what the song is about, but I love singing along! Here is a funny video to Blinded By the Light... it graphically tells you about the song. http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-244997561798974235&q=blinded+by+the+light&hl=en Do you have a song that takes you back to a certain place and time?

OK, here it goes...

OK, Here it goes! I have decided to start blogging. I recently gave up message boards and I desperately need an outlet to talk about the random things in my life to complete strangers and some not so much strangers. That's pretty much what this site will consist of, my ramblings... the good, the bad, and the ugly.

This past weekend I was in LA. I had to find a hotel at the last minute and chose the Travel Lodge in lovely downtown Burbank. It was in a safe area and was really cheap. My first request from the front desk was for an iron and ironing board. The ironing board was one of those dorm room kinds with the 2 inch legs. It did what I needed to do. Next I had no hot water. I had luke warm water so I made do. Finally the hair dryer did not work. When I called about this and explained to the woman that I had unplugged, pushed the reset button, pushed the on/off button and it still didn't work she spoke in disbelief and said she would send someone to look at it. I didn't need anyone to look at it, I needed a working hair dryer! They didn't have one so I had to go to this red carpet event with toweled dried hair. Luckily it was raining in LA that night and so I fit right in.

The second night I had to get a different hotel because of logistics and the Travel Lodge was sold out Saturday night. Must have been something large happening in Burbank! I lucked into a great hotel on 3rd street 2 blocks from The Grove and Farmers Market. It was called the Park Plaza Lodge Hotel. I will stay there every time I go to LA from now on. It was affordable, clean, centrally located and best of all, it had hot water and a working hair dryer!
